Nitro RC Twin Cylinder 4 Stroke RC Engine Beginners Guide
ATTENTION ABOUT STARTING
It is strongly advised against disassembling the engine and starting the mechanism for safety reasons. To resolve any beginning issues, please contact an OTTO professional or your nearby dealer. You will receive first-rate after-sales care from OTTO if the product is returned to the factory for testing.
Should an issue arise due to unapproved disassembly, you will be responsible for all associated costs and liabilities.
1 Glow plug
Two unique glow plugs are needed for the four-stroke methanol engine of the Model FS-L200AC-OT, which is powered by a 1.5 volt power source. The chamber keeps the filament hot enough to run the engine without the battery.
An "automatic" ignition burst occurs when the spark plug reaches the upper centre compression point. This allows for higher rotational speeds while reducing the load since the spark plug stays hot.
On the other hand, the spark plug will cool if the RPM is low, and the engine will shut down if the RPM is too low and the ignition stops. As a result, you can get the desired result by varying the damper to manage the engine speed.
2.Fuel
Use only guaranteed-quality methanol model engine fuel. Fuel that is self-dispensing or fake will significantly shorten the engine's lifespan and performance. Because it's a four-stroke engine, we can only use 20–25% nitro methane fuel to assure regular operation of the engine.
Using high nitro fuel will greatly impact how well the engine performs. This can make it hard to keep a steady speed because the cylinder pressure and ignition timing are constantly changing.
To ensure the engine runs well with new fuel or higher nitro content, use oil-rich needle adjustments. Adjust the petrol fuel ratio to between 1:25 and 1:30, and use 2T engine oil. This will help confirm the best settings for the new fuel.
Remind!
Spark plug life is short when the engine is operating at high speeds and using a lot of nitro fuel. Note that motor gasoline contains toxins.
Ensure that it remains out of children's reach, keeps out of their eyes and mouths, and is always stored in a container with a clear label. It catches fire easily. Avoid being near open flames, heat sources, or anything that can catch fire.
3.Fuel tank
It is advised to utilise a 100cc fuel tank. The tank and engine ought to be situated on the same floor.
The carburetor should be placed slightly higher than the fuel tank's inlet and outlet. This height difference should not exceed 1 centimeter. An excessive gap will decrease the carburetor's efficiency and cause the engine to start improperly.
Please install oil filters correctly and use standard 5mm silicone tubing to ensure a clean fuel supply. Use the muffling exhaust pipe to pressurize the fuel tank. The engine needs negative pressure to draw in oil effectively.
4.Start power supply
A single button can be used to start the start motor fitted in the FS-L200AC-OT series. To get a quick start, all you need to buy is a regular 7.4v 25C lithium battery. The starting motor's service life cannot be guaranteed by a starting battery that is too high or too low in voltage; avoid using the wrong kind of battery.
5.Environment for starting
Please start the engine in a well-ventilated, open area to prevent gas burn discomfort.
6.Platform for Starting
Please set the engine on a level, stable surface, as it will vibrate slightly after starting.
7.Heat dissipation
The fan has cooled the engine, so be careful around the high-speed moving fan blades—don't touch them. Please replace the blade as soon as you notice any cracks while using it.
Remind!
Please carefully inspect the blades for any cracks before starting the engine each time.
In order to prevent the risk of a blade spreading out during high-speed operation, we must replace any cracks with new ones.
Q: Has anyone installed the L200-AC gas conversion kit? I've managed to assemble the L200 with the dual magnet flywheel so far. Two 90-degree-apart pin grooves were carved into the flywheel; I assume this was done so the hall effect sensor may be mounted on the side or bottom.
Since I'm new to them, is all I need to do to ensure that one magnet lines up with the hall effect sensor when a piston reaches its top dead centre? I would like to know the relative positions of the hall effect sensor and the various places in which the flywheel can be installed.
A: Since not every customer will purchase the base, we utilise this metal sheet to fix the hall; therefore, there is no set locati0n for installation. Customers must adjust the hall to suit their own demands.
If you have not purchased the Metal Fixing Base for SEMTO ENGINE ST-NF2 / TOYAN Single Cylinder Engine FS-L200, you must fix the installation position of the hall yourself, and it is difficult to unify the fixed position. It is advised that you hire a little iron component to fix it, as the illustration below illustrates.
Usually, we use to secure the Hall from the bottom, and to do so, we use an iron piece like to the one below. When the piston is about to enter the power stroke after completing the compression stroke, that is the ideal time to ignite a four-stroke engine. The Hall first second induction ignition and the magnet.
7. How much torque I should use for tightening?

OPERATION AND ADJUSTMENT
Note
Since four-stroke engines can produce more torque than two-stroke engines, appropriate precautions should be taken when operating them.
Every engine has undergone testing at the factory to increase performance and lengthen its service life. Following engine delivery, you must properly clean and break in the engine. Following constant running-in, the cylinder pressure will progressively increase.
We do not advise you to completely disassemble the engine because of its high degree of simulation and the sheer amount of different parts. Instead, we will offer you a range of efficient sales to help you maintain and steady use.
- Check the timing belt and CAM axle box
Verify that the marking points on both pulleys can be lowered simultaneously (see P43).
Add the grease after opening the hood. Please apply solid grease to the mounted CAM while it is in use to ensure stable operation and prevent dry friction.
- Check the power supply
Verify that the 7.4 volt universal ignition power supply's voltage is normal and full of electricity.
- Initial Oil Needle Setting
Enough cooling and lubrication are prerequisites. The engine is operated by crucial oil needle settings: In addition to offering abundant lubrication, the extra oil transfers heat from the surrounding metal with the help of the fuel, nitro methane.
On a longer trip, the two-stroke model engines pre-heat into the cylinder through the crankcase. However, The rich mixture of cooling gasoline and air will enter the cylinder directly because the four-stroke engine has its intake pipe and carburettor positioned high on the cylinder cap.It may give every enthusiast a great operating experience with the aid of fan cooling. In order to ensure long-term stable operation of your engine, you can also purchase the OTTO range of water cooling accessories.
Remind!
Every engine has finished the oil needle setup before it leaves the factory. It is advised to set the primary oil needle to 2.0 laps and the auxiliary oil needle to 1.5 laps if you have misaligned the oil needle while using.
When the engine runs in an oil-rich state for an extended period of time at a low speed, the temperature of the spark plug filament progressively drops, making ignition more difficult for the methanol engine, which depends on maintaining this temperature to produce ignition. Consequently, in order to prevent oil enrichment at low speed, it is required to occasionally increase the pace of oil cleaning.
Please keep the throttle opening larger than 1.5mm
Loosen the throttle screw and adjust the size of the throttle
- Start
Remind!
Setting the throttle to the proper position before igniting the engine is crucial. In "no load" conditions, the engine is not permitted to open the throttle too far since this might cause the engine to overheat and severely damage the cylinder sleeve and piston ring. Instead, experts advise opening the throttle to 30% when starting the engine.
After plugging in the spark plug battery, hit the start button. After starting the engine, remove the spark plug batteries and run the engine at a low speed using the oil-rich needle setting. (If needed, carefully adjust the throttle lever to maintain a constant engine idle.)
A four-stroke engine needs a large amount of air intake, thus it's crucial to adjust the throttle screws; the idling setting, or minimum throttle opening, is approximately 1.5mm.For use by aficionados of all kinds of engines. To change the throttle door opening size, loosen the throttle by twisting the throttle valve screws; then, adjust by pulling the throttle rocker arm. Avoid applying excessive force to the valve screws. As depicted in figure
Enough cooling and lubrication are prerequisites. Certain crucial oil needle settings are used when operating the engine: In addition to offering abundant lubrication, the extra oil transfers heat from the surrounding metal with the help of the fuel, nitro methane. the model with two strokes OTTO Vehicle
Cool the engine for 15 seconds if it stops, then start it again. To preserve the start motor life, please depress the start key for a minimum of five seconds each time you start.
After starting, give the engine 30 seconds to warm up so that all of the moving parts are fully lubricated by the fuel. Please verify the carburetor's operational state if the engine suddenly lowers from high speed to low speed or quickly climbs from low speed to high speed, is unstable, or has sluggish throttle response or flashover.
Rich oil
The engine will emit smoke or accelerate slowly if there is too much oil in it. To show the engine has too much oil, turn the main oil needle clockwise by 15°. Gradually adjust it until the engine sounds strong and smooth, the exhaust pipe smokes a little, and fuel sprays out to lubricate the engine.
Lean oil
Turn the main oil needle anticlockwise by 15° as a unit. Gradually reduce the main oil needle until the exhaust sound is strong and soft, the exhaust pipe slightly smokes, and fuel sprays out. If the engine makes a sharp noise and gets hot quickly, it may stop running after speeding up, which means it needs more oil.
Idling Stop
Please check to see if the throttle is closed less than 1.5mm, or gradually reduce the auxiliary oil needle (clockwise rotation) and gradually adjust the auxiliary oil needle, 20°as units, until the engine maintains a steady idle speed. When the engine speed changes suddenly, abruptly adjust from the high speed to the low speed, and the flameout occurs.
The auxiliary oil needle should not be drastically decreased throughout the debugging process in order to prevent the engine from having low oil. A minimum of one turn should be maintained for the auxiliary oil needle.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
The FS-L200AC series is a highly accurate machine that requires prompt cleaning. The engine parts experience some wear and corrosion because of the climate and the fuel used in them. OTTO will thus further provide you long-term maintenance services. You can also finish the standard upkeep and cleaning.
Thoroughly clean the carburettor and empty the inlet of dirt and grease.
Make sure the air filter is clean and clear of obstructions if one is being utilised.
It is advised that the air core be changed on schedule if it is utilised for more than an hour.
To prevent dirt from getting inside the carburettor, take extra care when removing contaminated filter parts.
The timing synchronous belt can be cleaned with alcohol, but it should not be removed. To prevent damage, avoid cleaning synchronous belts with corrosive detergents.
Treating glow plugs as consumables is required. Long-running glow plugs won't guarantee that the engine will operate normally, but if you use them wisely, you can prolong their life and keep the engine performing well.
Utilise the proper instruments when disassembling your FS-100AC.
Utilise fuels with a moderately high nitromethane content.
While making adjustments, avoid overtilting the engine and disconnecting the battery.
It is now time to change the glow plug. Expect burned, for example, needs to be replaced in these circumstances as it is no longer performing at its best.
a. The filament surface turns white and rough b. The filament curls deforms
c. External substance stuck to the plug or filament corrosion
When the engine is idling, it will shut off.The engine began, and then the electricity went off.
To burn out any potential fuel that may still be in the fuel tank, empty the tank, turn on the glow plug, and attempt to restart the engine after every operation. Until the fuel is removed from the engine, keep doing this.
To spread the antiseptic oil to the moving parts, inject some and turn on the engine for a short while. Avoid injecting this oil into the lubricator nozzles as this could lead to the carburetor's O ring degrading. To make sure the CAM axle box has adequate lubricant for each operation, add solid lubricant to the valve tappet and camshaft.
Replacement of running parts
The friction between engine parts will eventually lead to wear and an excessive gap; replacing the relevant parts will improve engine maintenance. If you experience any issues during use, such as power decrease, instability at idle speed, or flexible start, please report your usage procedure and the engine's subpar performance to OTTO or your local dealer, and we will provide you with excellent service.
replacement parts, we'll supply expert tools and a knowledgeable staff. To reduce the possibility of the engine suffering irreversible damage, please do not disassemble the engine without using specialist tools.
BUG CHECKING
If the engine won't start, carefully inspect the following:
Whether the electricity is fully charged and whether the battery voltage is normal
If the glow plug is broken
Whether fuel can flow easily to the carburettor
In the event of flooding, never start the engine. To drain the extra fuel, take out the glow plug, shut the oil needle, and hit the start button. (To prevent petrol from spilling on you, cover the plug hole with a piece of woollen cloth.)
Starting the engine without removing extra fuel can cause permanent damage to the starting mechanism, connecting rod, and crankshaft. This damage could be irreversible.
It is important to ensure that all excess fuel is removed before attempting to start the engine. Failure to do so can result in costly repairs.
Timing belt modification
Before leaving the factory, the timing belt position of every OTTO motor has been tested.
When operating power loss or engine running instability is discovered after several hours of operation, the timing belt needs to be inspected and changed in order to obtain the engine's proper ignition information. Please refer to the "timing belt timing diagram" on page 11.
When Don't turn it off at a very low speed for an extended period of time. When the engine runs in a rich state for an extended period of time at a low speed, the temperature of the spark plug filament gradually drops, leading to shutdown because the methanol engine needs to maintain this temperature to produce ignition. Consequently, in order to maintain the filament's temperature, it is required to wait before increasing the oil's speed and cleaning it.
Common Questions People Might Ask
1. how about the durability of these miniature engines? You could do some testing on that. I'm always afraid of buying those for a model car and the engine breaking beyond repair after a couple of runs.
Answer: We have many custom model cars that have been successful. You can trust their quality as long as you take care of them properly after using them.
2. why did JQ 90 choose 30% nitro on this engine when Toyan calls for 20-25 % and what % of oil do he use in his nitro mix . Does he use 30% in his FS L200 also ?
We think the best methanol fuel is a mix of different ingredients. It should contain 20% castor oil, 5-30% nitromethane, and 20% methanol. This conclusion comes from our modeling experience. This ratio exhibits the best results that we have examined.
3. Hello, why don't you place a gasket between the lower two parts of the engine block? Also, what is the brand and type of your torque screwdriver please? Nice air-cooled four stroke engine. Won't this type overheat at max. rev if it's only air-cooled?
Answer: Gaskets are part of the engine kit and are necessary. V8engineforsale is where you can get screwdrivers.
4. can I ask what type of connectors did you use to attach the glow plugs and starter motor to the battery at once ? What capacity 3s did you use ?
Answer: You may get this 3-in-1 starter ESC straight from V8engineforsale; it handles both motor start and ignition simultaneously. It is a three-second lithium battery.
5. What's the red fluid in the assembly process and what type of grease for the cam and valves at the top
Answer: Model hobby stores sell both the blue and red liquids, which are grease and lubricating oil, respectively.
6. One common problem with almost all tiny engine kits, regardless of who makes them, is that their rotating mass is way too small. Replacing the stock flywheel with one that is 2 to 3x heavier makes a world of difference in low RPM operation and general stability.
Answer: There are various appropriate circumstances for different engines. Some engines are designed for performance. This makes them better for powering models. Other engines focus on simulation. This makes them more suitable for use as decorative items.
7. Did I see a different head gasket vs the aluminum used on the l200?.
Answer: We adjusted a few things. Since the original water cooling structure has been abandoned, a new head gasket has been installed.
8. To be clear, this was 7500-8000 RPM. For every full revolution of the 4T engine, the crankshaft rotates 720 degrees. That's why tachometer reading is taken from either the camshaft or distributor, not from crankshaft.
Answer: Yes, a four-stroke engine's full stroke is 720°, so the tachometer measurement should be divided by two.
9. so does this have a timed spark or does a glow plug just glow all the time and it just timed by the intake cam?
Answer: The glow plug will heat up when you turn on the ESC and stay that way until you turn it off.
10. How's the crankshaft lubrication done in this FS-L200AC engine ?
Answer: Lubrication with splashes. When assembly, simply add the lubricating grease that is typically used in the model.
11. What powered screwdriver and torque wrench screwdriver do you use?
Answer:All of the necessary tools for any engine builder are available right here.
12. Is there something like a diesel RC engine? If so would be cool to buy one and run it on something like oil. If not try to make one? You should have the mashinery to make a RC engine.Just an idea
Answer:Our intention is to introduce the diesel engine before the end of this year.
13. can you put an airplane propeller in it? the rotation speed is perfect, how is it cooled?
Answer:air cooling naturally. Its temperature is within a manageable range as long as it is not constantly operating at a high pace. Air cooling is ultimately superior.
14. Why has the idler pully got so much more contact area with the cam belt than the cam shaft pully?
Answer:Idler pulley slipping is less likely when the pulley contact is not with the toothed side of the belt.
15. Is anyone else concerned about how little support that camshaft has?
Answer:We've tested it and it's good enough.
16. On every single one of these mini engines I see assembled. The builder just slaps the grease over top of the rockers where it is useless instead of in and around the moving parts.
Answer:The crankshaft or camshaft moves the grease where it should as it rotates.
17. What are the ports on the side? Water cooled? Website says air-cooled
Answer:air conditioning. The port for removing used oil is on the side.
18. Why u use glow plugs instead of spark plugs?
Answer:Methanol fuel troubleshooting is less complicated than debugging a petrol engine.
19. If it's strong metal, something hardened then annealed back to a softer state, it should work just fine. I mean, by the same metric... think how hard F1 rods last. Those are so small and light yet they can sing God Save the Queen on those engines...
Materials are processed to enhance their structure and eliminate stress from casting, forging, rolling, and welding. This process helps prevent deformation and cracking in the end products. This helps prevent deformation and cracking in the final products. We aim to employ better materials while keeping expenses under control so that we can accomplish more, you know.
20. Plus, I'm sure it might also be made with lower friction materials since these don't have oil pumps like the more detailed engines
Answer:This engine model has a 2-in-1 carburettor instead of an oil pump. In order to accommodate the budgets of all players and aficionados, we have taken several steps to make it as inexpensive as possible.
21. i‘m wondering how the rods survive at those RPM, then again its the weight, just like in a car engine its balanced.and this is super light weight so.. not as much stress?
Answer:A significant torque generated by the rotation won't harm the connecting rod if the load isn't too high or too heavy. At fast speeds, the pressure won't be that high.
22. how do the volt regulators work? How much volt do they need to actually have 1.5V at the output for the glow plugs?
answer: The V8engineforsale ignition modules are available for purchase. You must bring a 7.4V lithium battery of your own. Use it in conjunction with our ignition module to give the glow plug a steady voltage.
23. I'm curious, my timing skipped and worried that the valves ran into the pistons. anyone have a thought on that. Otherwise waiting for new starter belts for mine.
answer:
Reconfigure the timing system and make sure the crankshaft's marking point is in the correct place.
24. I’m struggling to get the Semto engine started at all. Tried with the glow plugs, no success. Now trying woth gas but still, it won’t start. The spark plugs work well and the hall sensir is accurately placed. It just won’t start. Any videos on this would be useful.
answer:
It is advised to use methanol first. Compared to petrol, methanol is simpler to debug.
Make sure the light plug is glowing first. Install the glow plug in the engine after confirming that everything is normal.
Now start the engine and use your hand to press the carburettor air exit once or twice to let the oil enter. Try adjusting the carburettor again if it still won't start.
After turning the main oil needle to the bottom, turn it back twice. Auxiliary oil needle: turn it to the bottom and then back 1.5 turns. After the modification, it will function as usual.
26. I see some people using torque wrenches. Is there a recommended torque for construction of my semto 2 cylinder?
